Lets go with option #1, imagine it to be the blueprint for a town and the town planning and approvals officer is Mr Googles this blueprint (Schema) provides the approvals officer (Mr Googles) with a sound understanding of where the town will be being built, how many buildings are in the town, what the town will consist of and the associated people involved in planning the town project.

Now Moz.com describes schema as "the result of collaboration between Google, Bing, Yandex, and Yahoo! to help you provide the information their search engines need to understand your content and provide the best search results possible at this time. Adding Schema markup to your HTML improves the way your page displays in SERPs by enhancing the rich snippets that are displayed beneath the page title."

If you add schema correctly yes it will help your SEO efforts on your website or client websites, but if you abuse the schema you can see google take action by labelling your website as spammy markup dont think of using schema to hack your way to page 1 glory use it as intended and you will see far better results. 

Including schema markup within your HTML code can be a benefit and you always want the search engine crawlers to understand the information you provide them schema helps this process. Use it as best practise for your website to correctly provide structured data to the spiders so you website content is properly interepted by the search engine.

Will my search rankings increase with Schema?

Some experts say yes you need it and some say they see no movement with schema markup its one of those things you have control if you use it or not. Google says it isnt a ranking factor but happily displays the websites that utilise schema markup in a much more favourable way, look for the review stars, social profiles, images and structured data. The rich snippets are what gets the best makeover with schema markup

Can Schema give me a number 1 ranking by Saturday?

Maybe not but if you close your eyes and think about ranking number 1 really really hard you might just get there 

Can Schema help increasing my website rank?

Rich Snippets attract better click through than a website that doe snot display a rich snippet and this IS a ranking factor the higher your click through rate the more visitors your website gets the more useful google sees your website and the more love you get in return for having such a useful website. 

Schema makes it a lot easier for the search engine to understand what your website is about and what categories your website falls into so it is being provided with structured data that helps identify what it is crawling and in turn provides a more educated understanding of what your website is all about.
