If you add schema correctly yes it will help your SEO efforts on your website or client websites, but if you abuse the schema you can see google take action by labelling your website as spammy markup dont think of using schema to hack your way to page 1 glory use it as intended and you will see far better results.
Including schema markup within your HTML code can be a benefit and you always want the search engine crawlers to understand the information you provide them schema helps this process. Use it as best practise for your website to correctly provide structured data to the spiders so you website content is properly interepted by the search engine.

Some experts say yes you need it and some say they see no movement with schema markup its one of those things you have control if you use it or not.
